What is the difference between a volleyball shoe and and other types of tennis shoes?

I just purchased a recommended pair of volleyball shoes for my 6th grader to use for play. What is different about these shoes than any regular tennis shoes?

What is the difference between a volleyball shoe and and other types of tennis shoes?
Good question! unfortunatley, i am roped in the buying these shoes as well-marketed for "volleyball" use. In reality, i dont thinkthey are all the different. A little gel thing in the toe, a little different sole, but other thant hat, not too much.
Reply:well on the bottom of a volleyball shoe there is something that keeps you from sliding when you are running and with a regular shoe you will slide
Reply:I play on a Highschool volleyball team, so here's my answer: The major difference in volleyball shoes and running shoes is that running shoes are made for RUNNING. Sure, you may run in volleyball, but the shoes you'd want should have a nice high arch that will allow you to jump high. Volleyball shoes also have better grip on the ground, so when you're diving for a ball you don't keep slideing. A volleyball company that has nice volleyball shoes is Adidas. Good Luck!
Reply:More Support for your ankles and less slippery so you dont glide.
Reply:your best bet would be to buy Asics shoes or Mizuno shoes because they are the best shoes to move around in. Otherwise, I would make sure to get shoes with a rounded top so there is no rolling of the ankle! Good Luck!
Reply:Basically it has to do with the support provided by the shoe. Running shoes are made for forward and backward movement and provide cushion for the impacts caused by the foot hitting the ground during running. They do not provide adequate support for lateral movements and for the turns associated with volleyball. You mentioned Tennis shoes although I believe you mean running shoes. Structurally tennis shoes are very similar to volleyball shoes except for weight, vball shoes are much lighter. The movements in both sports are very similar so the soles and support provided are very similar.

At the 6th grade level I doubt you would see an increase of ankle and leg injuries from your players wearing running shoes simply because they don't usually move a whole lot. However the older and more advanced players get, I would definitely recommend volleyball shoes simply because they provide better support and prevent injuries like rolled ankles and the like.

Hope that helps.
