Can you wear tennis shoes with a suit?

I have to go to a speech and debate tournament. I have to look professional with a suit. But can i wear black tennis shoes with a grayish suit?

Can you wear tennis shoes with a suit?
Sorry, no, you won't be able to get away with tennis shoes for a 'professional' look.

I suggest you go out %26amp; buy a pair of black dress shoes - you will feel better, more confident, because you'll know you have the 'complete package'. Plus, you'll also be prepared for weddings %26amp; sadly, funerals.

Good luck!
Reply:Absolutely. Just ask Ben Stein!
Reply:sure, as long the colors jive.
Reply:You can, if they are not as noticeable, wear a tie that will attract all the attention from your shoes
Reply:NO!
Reply:you CAN, but it won't look professional.

On the other hand, if you work in software design ( no insult intended to anyone) it will look normal.
Reply:Yes you can, but you look stupid
Reply:umm, well depending on how nice they look. like dont go wearing shoes like nike shoes maybe with mesh on it, ya know??
Reply:hm well speech and debate tournament- you might could get away with it but idk if its the best idea....but ok you can totally wear tennis shoes with a suit if you do it right....but it usally works best with brightly colored tennis shoes and you just totally have to rock the looks....idk how to explain how to do that haha...sorry....but yah, you basically have to have the right look and attitude to be able to pull it off well....but for your sitch, i would totally wear dress shoes.
Reply:You are going to a tournament .Don't you were tennis shoes when in a tournament. Being there black they won't notes them any ways.Be cool.
Reply:word. you're just a student so do what you want.

i think there have been several celebs that pulled this off (http://www.movietome.com/users/Bozanimal...

also, chucks always work with a suit. just make sure they aren't white cause only jt can do that....???
Reply:No as you want to look professional dont wear the tennis shoes. It will look odd better wear a formal shoe.
Reply:nononono, tennis shoes should not be worn with any type of suit. x.x you will look ridiculous!!
Reply:No way, not if you want to look professional. Black tennis shoes might work for a casual look with a sport jacket and slacks, but would just look goofy with a suit.
Reply:one word. NO! please dont this is very unprofessional esp with a grey suit
Reply:You can do whatever you want, they certainly wont kick you out for it. My husband played for many years for the Playboy club in a tux with tennis shoes. Because he was VERY good he could get away with it. Are you that good? If not, I wouldn't do it until you are.
Reply:sure. while you're at it why dont you throw in a pair of flip flops and baggy pants. no! you wear DRESS SHOES with a suit. not sneakers. thats why its called a suit. sneakers are not considered professional. they hopefully wont let you in if you're dressed like that.
Reply:it depends on the shoes. if they are like running shoes..not so much. but if its more casual, i think it would look fine.
Reply:if it's something as formal as a speech/debate tournament, just go with dress shoes to be safe, and if u don't own any, then it's acceptable....just don't go with sumthing like bright orange converse hightops.
Reply:House, MD does:P

I wear sneakers with slacks to work.

But if you have to look professional, I wouldnt, unless maybe the shoes are solid black with no markings and arent noticeable.
