Sneakers or Tennis Shoes? What do you call them & Where did you grow up? I'm from the midwest I say Sneakers

My husband Grew up in California he calls them Tennis shoes. I%26#039;m from Wisconsin and call them sneakers. He thinks that the word Sneaker is some old fashioned out of date word or only people from the Mid-West say %26quot;Sneakers%26quot;. I wonder what do most people call them? Also can you tell us where you grew up to determine if it is really where you live that determines what you call them.

Anyone know the history if why we call them Sneakers...It is a wierd word

Sneakers or Tennis Shoes? What do you call them %26amp; Where did you grow up? I%26#039;m from the midwest I say Sneakers
-I still call my Nike%26#039;s %26quot;Tennis Shoes%26quot;! I think the word %26quot;Sneakers%26quot; come from the fact that the shoes have rubber soles, so no one can hear you %26quot;sneak about%26quot; ha-ha! I grew up in Oklahoma. I am a 60%26#039;s child! Good question!
Reply:Sneakers. New York.

And if you didn%26#039;t have the P.F. Flyers, man, you couldn%26#039;t do nuthin%26#039;!
Reply:I used to call them sneakers, now I call them tennis shoes. I am not sure when I switched., probably when I took up tennis in the mid sixties. I am from the SE (northcentral Florida). I am over fifty.
Reply:I actually say both %26quot;tennis shoes%26quot; and %26quot;sneakers%26quot;. To me, those words are interchangeable.

I find that the older I get, I more often call them running shoes.

I grew up in Ohio and Indiana.
Reply:Tennis shoes and sneakers aren%26#039;t the same thing.
Reply:I grew up in St. Louis and I always called them tennis shoes.
